How CVS deals work

You can save 10, 20, even 100’s of dollars off your household budget each year by shopping at CVS. Just because this is a drugstore doesn’t mean everything is more expensive than Wal-Mart or Target. By watching the sales ad you can save quite a bit with very little effort. At least half of my shopping at CVS yields me free products or better than free products.

First, to get advertised deals you need to sign up for an ExtraCare Card.

ExtraCare Card holders receive these benefits:

  • 2% back in ECBs (CVS currency) each quarter
  • promotional ECBs that can yield you up to the purchase price of an item
  • ECBs for purchasing prescriptions
  • ECBs for using reusable bags
  • Special store coupons when you scan your card at the coupon machine when you come into the store

CVS puts limits on the ECB deals for each item, which helps to ensure that everyone has a chance to get them.

When you receive an ECB you have 4 weeks to use it just like cash in the store

By combining the ECB promotions with coupons you can often receive back more ECBs than you paid OOP (out of pocket), thus “making money”.

It is quite feasible to take home upwards of $100 in merchandise from CVS without spending more than a few dollars in cash.
