Laundry Made Easier

Here are some tips for saving time doing your laundry at home. Instead of doing a load of laundry every day or other day, save up and do 3 or 4 loads in one day. Then set aside the day with nothing else on your agenda.

Bring all the laundry to your living room and sort while you watch a movie. While the wash is running, sit back and relax, (or treat stains) while watching more of your movie. It takes a lot of the chore out of laundry this way. When the washer stops load it into the dryer and run another wash load, then watch more movie.  (are you getting the picture of how this is relaxing?) :-)

Here’s a big time saver- begin taking your dried clothes out as soon as the wash load stops. Pull several lighter weight items out to hang or fold at a time while continuing to dry the heavier ones. By doing this you almost never need to iron, because the clothes don’t get over dried!

Sort each person’s clothes into a separate basket and deliver to rooms only one day a week, instead of several! (you can even have older children put away their own clothes) Back when we were a family of 5 and 6 I would often do laundry just once a week and do 6-8 loads! It sounds crazy, but I found it was a great day for relaxing. I would watch TV, visit with friends on the phone, read a book etc., but still accomplish a great deal.

It might take some adjustment if you’re used to washing one load a day, but it sure works for me!
