When we got married 9 years ago we received a set of really nice nonstick cookware. I had never even heard of nonstick before this. Well, over time they seem to get harder and harder to clean. Hmmm, wonder why? My mother’s cookware is still super easy to clean and you know what? It’s cast iron!
A few weeks back Pary Moppins posted a series about the great qualities of cast iron. She even took a super rusty skillet and made it look brand new. These posts really impressed me and have had me thinking about why my wonderful nonstick cookware isn’t so nonstick anymore. I haven’t been able to get her posts off my mind. If you’d like to read them you can check them out here: Best Things About Cast Iron How to Season Cast Iron Use Coke to Easily Remove Rust From Cast Iron I think I’ll be asking for my mother’s cookware instead of a new set of expensive nonstick.

my favorite is stainless steel. I have burned lots of different things — and a cheap brillo pad gets them shiny and back to new again. With my cast iron, I think it’s a lot of work, since you can’t let them sit and soak (they’ll rust) and have to make sure they are perfectly dry before I put them away (or they’ll rust) and can’t use a lot of soap – or they’ll take on the flavor/get unseasoned. I have one and I don’t use it often. I’ve had nonstick and I don’t like them much anymore. My mom had stainless steel and they are still great. When I buy new pans, that’s what I plan to get. One at a time. 😉 My grandma had a stockpile of things in her garage and she had a large pot that was stainless steel and she gave it to me. I cook everything in it!
Oh and it’s pricey, but there is a place you can send your nonstick pans to have them recoated. Just fyi.
I really like how the cast iron cooks evenly. Since I cook on electric that is a biggie for me. I do agree though- one at a time! Boy the ways I could blow a budget with little effort
And non-stick coating is really nasty stuff. Your pans aren’t cleaning as easily because the coating is coming off & it is getting into your food. Google nonstick safety or something similar to that. Yuck. That’s why I have stainless, but cast iron is definitely the best of the best.
