Multitasking with your Microwave

We talked about doing “commercial cleaning” last summer.  I hope that you’ve given that a try and found some “extra” time with all that you’re able to do while you’re watching TV.  Lately I’ve noticed that my kitchen isn’t as tidy as usual.  I’ve also noticed that I’ve been doing a lot of standing and waiting on the microwave, which is part of the reason for my kitchen’s lack of tidiness.

Typically I use every second available to me.  If you put a dish in the microwave to cook for several minutes you usually do something else while it cooks right?  What about something that heats for less than a minute, maybe even 15 seconds?  I use these short intervals to keep my kitchen tidy.  With as few as 15 seconds on your microwave cooking, you can

  • wipe a dirty spot on the counter
  • load a few dishes in the dishwasher
  • rinse some dishes in the sink
  • fill the baby bottles to the right amount of water
  • check the fridge for leftovers that need to be eaten soon
  • wipe the stovetop
  • clear some clutter/trash from your counters
  • measure formula into the travel dispenser
  • put a few clean dishes into the cupboards
  • get canned goods out in preparation for a meal

It’s amazing how 15 seconds sounds like such a short amount of time, and yet you can accomplish so much with it.  I’m sure that in the past couple of weeks my body has needed the time to just pause and rest while the microwave did it’s miraculous job, but my laziness has begun to take it’s toll on my tidy kitchen.   So until they create a very affordable version of the Jetson’s Rosie, I better kick it back into high gear and get more done.
