Hi, I thought we could only get 2 toothbrushes from a CVS card for the ECB. Also I did some shopping on sunday and gave my ECB first and then my coupons, thought I needed to add to my order because I had to many ECB and coupons but I didnt. paid only .22 cents and my subtotal was -.74 because I did my ECB first.
Hi Shirley, you’re right about only getting 2 ECBs. I’ve only included 2 in this scenario. The reader wanted 4 toothbrushes because he is using a BOGO Q and a $2 Q for each pair (this is allowable, but something I personally don’t feel comfortable with). His cost per set is $.99, so he’s getting 4 brushes for free. I realize now though, that I’ve split the ECB up into two transactions, and the register will actually issue a single $1.98 ECB in the first transaction. I’ll have to fix that. Thanks!
As far as using ECBs and coupons and their order: CVS does not limit the #. The tax laws differ by state. Here in TX we are taxes on the amount after all Qs, so I would always give Qs first, then ask for my total before tax to know how many ECBs I need to use (if I didn’t write a scenario that tells me) Your total was -74, which means you lost .74 of an ECB. But if you are in a state that taxes on merchandise total, this could benefit you. I’d recommend you calculate the amount of tax and see if you benefitted from the overage or if you just lost it. It was my understanding that ECBs couldn’t cover tax. I’ll do some asking around to bloggers in other states and see what they think about it and comment here with what I hear.
Hi again,
Ok thanks for clearing up my confusion.
I pulled out my reciept and this is the break down.
1 Complete multi purpose solution. 8.99
1 GUM Flosser 2.00
subtotal 10.99
tax was .96
I used my coupons in this order
ECB 3.00
ECB 1.98
ECB 5.00
MC 0.75 flossers
MC 1.00 Complete Care
my subtotal ended up as .74- and tax still was .96 (CA tax is before coupons) Total paid was .22
If I had used my MC first I would have only been able to use 8.00 ECB and paid 2.21
