What Would You Ask Nathan Engels aka Mr. Coupon?

This post may contain affiliate links.

As an affiliate of We Use Coupons, Nathan Engels e-mailed this morning and said if I want to send him an e-mail interview he’d be glad to answer some questions.  I know many of you have watched TLC’s Extreme Couponing that Nathan was featured on.  I personally am not a fan of the show (just because the show is called extreme doesn’t make the practice necessary or realistic-I’d prefer to see them teaching how to coupon instead of flamboyance) but this blog’s main purpose is to help others.

So, I’ll leave it up to you guys.  If you want me to send him some questions, send them to me.  What would you ask Nathan Engels/Mr. Coupon?

  1. I haven’t seen the show, but I’ve heard plenty from friends. My question, when someone walks out of there with $1000 worth of items and only paid a few dollars, how did they get all the coupons? Did any of them buy them from the online coupon sellers? Because then, in reality, they spent WAY more. Or are they dumpster divers to get their coupons? Or do they buy a ton of papers every week? Just curious.

found your site on del.icio.us today and really liked it.. i bookmarked it and will be back to check it out some more later

  3. @ Super Saving Sisters- Don’t forget the promos like buy 10, get $5 off that helped get their totals down just as much as Qs and double Qs. Let’s say that’s $100 of it, and another $300 is from the double Qs. If they paid a clipping service for $600 worth it would run them around $60. However, I know coupon dede and my coupon hunter both give points for purchases, so they’d have discounts on that amount. Kuntry Klippers clips batches of Qs for $1-$1.50. My guess is a total fee of $40 for the clipping services. That puts them at $50 for $1000 worth. A 95% savings on that big an order is still extreme and super!. I was fortunate back in NW Arkansas to get my paper for $.55 delivered! $.50 off the rack for 10-20 papers a week would be much cheaper than hiring a service.

I watched one episode and was sorely disappointed that they didn’t instruct people better on how coupon shopping is done. It was more about how extreme they can make their purchases. I’d love to see it eventually spin off into some instruction.
