Over the past 4 weeks I’ve narrowed the # of e-mails in my 3 accounts from 9043 to 3754-past my goal! Now that I have things under control, my plan from here on out is to spend a total of just 5 mins a day keeping my inboxes clutter free and hopefully reduce that # still further. It was a nice this week to take the computer in by the TV and spend a bit of time chatting with my husband while I cleared out some old e-mails from family members that I didn’t need to keep. I may make that a standing date LOL.
If you’re just catching us on your challenge, here are the steps we’ve been through:
- Add up the total # of e-mails, set a goal, choose some sites that you can unsubscribe to, sort or search for other subscription e-mails and delete any that are older than a month.
- Set up e-mail filters for e-mails from subscriptions that you’d like to keep, or e-mails that you don’t need to see in your inbox every day (paid to read e-mails).
- Set up folders for friends and family members and begin deleting unnecessary e-mails.
- Keep up your progress-see where you need to spend your time this week.
For those that have been participating in the challenge with me, I’d love to hear about the progress you’ve made. Digital clutter can wreak havoc on our lives just as much as physical clutter. I’m setting a new goal to get my e-mails down to 2,000 or less but I won’t put as much of a stress on doing it so quickly because my e-mail accounts are working for me again and I’m not losing as many as I was 4 weeks ago. I hope that you’ll spend some time each week to keep those accounts cleaned out as much as possible. Let me know how this challenge went for you!

Well, at least I have my junk mail account back under control. My blog account needs some work.
Perhaps, depending on when your emails are from, you can pick a date, say 2 weeks from the day you sit down and anything older than 2 weeks gets chucked. I tend to go thru and file emails then never look at haf of them again and the folders get HUGE so I pick a date and delete all emails from before said date.
Good luck! This is something I stuggle with too so I totally understand!
I’m with you Amanda, so many things in the blog account are necessary to hang on to. I have done several searches for old affiliate offers and was able to make some good progress that way.
Jessica, inevitably when I do mass deletes I end up needing an address or phone number that was there. I am ready to let the e-mails go, but not without looking at them first. What I’m working on now, is to delete e-mails that are inconsequential as soon as I read them. It’s helping immensely!
