Simple Homemaking Plan Week 5 of 2012

As I sit down to write the menu for the week,
I’m writing out my 4 weekly “to do” lists (personal tasks, blogging
tasks, cleaning chores, less common maintenance cleaning tasks).  It’s
helping me to accomplish things that easily get pushed aside otherwise,
even if I don’t get them all checked off!

Has anyone found a homemaking plan online that works for you?  I’ve
tried Fly Lady, but it was just too much for me.  I’d love to hear about
some sites that are helpful for you.

I’ve now had 2 weeks in a row that I  failed to get my work done  found opportunities for improvement in my homemaking. While I accomplished a lot last week, it wasn’t what was on my list, and precious little on any of my lists got checked off.  I basically was treading water, but managing to stay afloat.   I think I need some of those horse blinders that they use to keep the carriage horses from looking around and getting distracted. Or maybe just a maid. :-)

This week’s maintenance chores in addition to daily functioning cleaning chores (starting with 2 from last week):

  1. Clean inside of stove
  2. Wipe down baseboards in all living areas
  3. Clean out the junk/paper drawers in the kitchen (don’t be afraid to put things back in that don’t have a home- but do trash the trash and put away things that have a home)
  4. Put 2 or 3 more items on Craigslist or Ebay to sell (I’m really trying to clear “stuff” and put the money on the mortgage without denting our savings)
  5. 15 minutes daily tidy after the kids go to bed (I’ve started slacking here again- I need a lock timer for my computer LOL)

See?  Nothing too involved, just things that will help me stay on
top of things at home instead of letting the week slip away from me
because none of those things seem pressing to be done immediately.

I’d love to hear what plans work for you!

  1. I think you just have to remember not to stress about what you DON’T get done … I’m real bad about making all these extra chores/projects and then get upset that nothing seems to get done, but yet, there are clean clothes, all put away, dinner on the table, breakfast and lunches packed and ready and blog stuff done, so really you do get a lot done, just need to re-evaluate the list :)

  2. I’m actually not stressed about it. 6 months ago I would have been. Now I’m just pleased with all the things I’ve accomplished in the past 4 weeks. The lists still nag me, but really only because they’re down to things that I don’t really want to do anyway LOL. I have scheduling dentist appts on the list for example. I bet that if I didn’t have that on paper we’d let it go 2 years! Thanks for the encouragement Frugal- you’re right that even without a list we WAHMs accomplish a lot each and every day!
