Bead Sorting – Preschool Busy Activities

This activity wasn’t something I planned.  It just sort of happened.  Little Turkey enjoyed the bead stringing so much that he’s been asking to do it again.  My next plan for the beads had been to have him string the beads into a pattern, but I felt like I needed to give him a smaller amount of beads with enough to make a definite pattern.  I was working on sorting them by shape and color and he asked to help.  It ended up being the perfect educational activity:

  • He had to use his fine motor skills to pick up some of the smaller beads.
  • He had to use his discernment to tell the difference between similar sizes of the same shapes. –
  • He had to discern between crossover shades like yellow green or blue green.

He spent about 30 minutes helping with the
sorting and has asked to do it again a couple of times since. I would definitely call this activity a success!
