Bead Stringing – Preschool Busy Activities

I didn’t post any of our preschool busy activities last week.  Not because we didn’t do any, but because they didn’t work very well.  I tried several things that were either too advanced or too easy to hold his attention.  He’s already working 100 pc puzzles at barely age 4, but has deficiencies in other areas, so sometimes it’s a guessing game what skills will work.  The most disastrous project this week was beans.  I drew him a picture of a cement truck, gave him some watered down glue in a jar with a paint brush, and told him to glue the different colored beans onto the truck.  He glued 6 beans before pouring the beans from one bowl to another.  Eventually he glued more, but he didn’t exactly glue them inside the truck.  😉  It kept him busy for nearly 30 minutes, but not really in the educational way I had hoped. Next time I’ll just give him several containers with varying size mouths and a scoop, and just let him work on motor skills that way LOL.

This week we started with stringing beads.  I gave him a bowl of assorted beads and a string with a starter bead. He enjoyed looking through the various beads and stringing them.  Once he got going he was really excited about how long it was.  Next time I plan to show him how to make patterns.  He can choose to do patterns according to color or shape- or both!
