Frugal $5 Dinner Menu Week 8 of 2012

My goal is to provide dinner for my family for an average of $5 except on special occasions. We don’t have to eat beans and rice to accomplish this goal!  I shop the grocery sales each week.  Then I plan my menu based on the foods I have already at home (at a great price). I balance more expensive meals with less expensive ones. We typically only cook a main dish 4 or 5 times a week. Each

main dish cooked will serve 4-6, and the leftovers will be for easy
dinners on the weekend, or to freeze for another week. This cuts down on
cleaning, cooking, and meal planning- saving at us lots of time!

 

This week we’ll be cooking (in no particular order)
 

Lasagna, Garlic Toast, Green Beans and Salad

Soda Pop Crockpot Chicken (thanks for Bryany for the recipe book!)
Grilled Chicken Salad
Spaghetti, Sweet Peas, Pineapple and Toast
Grilled Hamburgers and Hot Dogs, Chips and Cheese Dip

Little Caesar’s Pizza and Apple Slices

For 2012, I will no longer be showing
the cost breakdown for our meals.  This is very time consuming and for
little purpose since I’ve spent the past 18 months showing that a family
of 4 could eat for an average of $5 per dinner.  If you’d like to see

    also, how am i supposed to arrive at the super cheap goodnites deal you mentioned on fb the other day? :/

    They will be $9.49 at Wags with a $2 RR back. I wasn’t too impressed with the chicken :-( It seemed sort of bland. Hubby used whole chicken breasts though, maybe next time we’ll use the pulled chicken that we usually use and it will absorb the flavor better.

    I’m sorry it was bland :/

    I was in wags earlier and i took my coupon in to use, but was taken aback by the price because there were no signs indicating a RR, and I glanced through the ad quickly and didn’t spot it…so even with my $2/1 q, I was still paying the price that I would pay at Walmart. So I put them back…I was at the wags by Bergfeld. Maybe they don’t have their price tags changed yet…?

    ahh! ok so i’m not crazy. my q will be expired by then….but maybe the ones i just printed off hubby’s computer the other day won’t be. thank!
