The Solution for Messy Dinners With Kids

I’ve written before about how we only use about 3 rolls of paper towels a year.  Instead, we have a “rag” trash can in our kitchen. The rags work much better than paper towels for most things. I even have about
a dozen old washcloths that I use to clean Little One’s face with after every meal.  They are so much stronger than paper towels. Dirty rags take virtually no extra room in the laundry so there’s no extra cost involved in washing them.

There are some messes that neither rag nor paper towel can clean off a child.  One of those is spaghetti.  I have a solution – here’s an older post of mine about how we handle spaghetti dinners at our house with little mess, while they kids are free to eat without worrying about messes.  Little One is at such a messy stage and refuses to keep a bib on (we’ve tried just about everything-she pulls so hard she even gets a safety pin undone), I’m thinking of doing this every night for her until this stage passes!

Does anyone else use rags frequently instead of paper towels?  They’re good for the earth and your checkbook!

  1. I made cloth “wet wipes” and rags out of old receiving blankets found at garage sales & thrift store. Love them! Also, my daughter hates wearing a bib as well. :)

  2. Great idea! I’d have never thought to use the receiving blankets. Of course my daughter uses all of hers for baby blankets :-)
