Chipboard Letter Matching – Preschool Busy Activity

Last week ended up being a fairly busy week so little Turkey mostly worked puzzles during his educational playtime.  He’s been doing more and more constructing with his Trio blocks-which we’re thrilled about.  He had a friend over to play yesterday and didn’t want to cook!  I think it might have been because he didn’t want to share his big kitchen set though LOL.

Yesterday I had him sort these chipboard letters.  First he matched all the letters (I’m not sure where the L went to). It took about 15 minutes surprisingly. I helped him see how to lay aside pieces that he wasn’t looking for so he could see what he was looking for.  It’s small things like this that we forget kids need to be taught.  Then he spelled his name.  Since his name duplicates letters he had to use a little problem solving to realize he needed to unpair some to make it work.  Then I had him put all the letters in ABC order.  This step took about 5 minutes. To really stretch his brain I’m planning on having him put the letters in backwards ABC order when he starts to get bored with this activity.  Since he should only do it once a month he should be ready for that step by then.

You can find chipboard letter sets at craft stores. I found mine on clearance for just $0.75!
