Ideas for Kids Birthday Cakes

I like to buy a cake for the kids’ parties.  I’m not very
good at decorating cakes and I like for them to have a special cake for
their birthday pictures. I remember my parties the most by what my cakes
looked
like.
Often they were cookies or brownies since I’m not much of a cake girl. I’m not very good with coming up with ideas for kids’ birthday cakes, but I’ve found that I can buy a 1/4 sheet cake or a 12 ct. cupcake cake for around
$8. That’s a price I can deal with since the rest of the party items are purchased or made on a frugal budget.

You don’t have to pre-order a cake
to have something special.
Most bakeries have pre-made cakes available
daily.  You can purchase one that suits your child and have their name
written on it. Adding a pack of character or themed candies, or even a character figurine will make the cake feel custom to your child.

Some of the cutest cakes I’ve seen are cakes made from cupcakes. These are becoming  quite popular and bakeries usually have designs in their pre-order books. You
can buy premade cupcakes and put them into a design yourself.  I recommend drawing it out on paper first. Sometimes I even use soup cans to make a design.  If you take the bakery your
design a few days before the party they’ll usually be glad to put the cupcakes into the design on a
cake board for you-before icing.  Then the icing will be touching on the
cupcakes and make the design look more cohesive.

Last week I still hadn’t made a decision about what sort of cake to have
for Little One’s family get together.  I went to the bakery hoping to
find a pre-made 1/4 sheet cake to add some Minnie Mouse candies to.
Nothing suited me, so I bought 12 pink mini cupcakes and 12 blue mini
cupcakes.  I put them into a butterfly shape on a cookie sheet.
  The
cost?  Under $6. All the kids loved it!

Here are some other cupcake cakes we’ve bought. You can click on the pictures to make them bigger.
