Always Be Looking Ahead for Future Needs – 4 Week Frugal Challenge

The goal blocks I showed you last week have been the most help to me in this challenge so far. I leave them sitting right by my computer monitor and my rice jar that’s also to help me make my goals a priority.  But just like my house, it’s so easy to take a look at my goals and say “everything looks ok, I think I’ll take a break”.  Trust me, it gets me every time. Before I know it I’m struggling to catch back up.

Some of the verses I shared at the Couponing for the Kingdom bible study this morning struck my heart yet again because I still struggle to stay focused on my goals and keep my priorities in order.

Proverbs 31:18b …her lamp does not go out at night. (She had to look ahead and fill it with oil before it needed it)

Proverbs 31:21 When it snows, she has no fear for her household, for all of them are clothed in scarlet (she bought or made thick warm material in a color that cannot be removed – before it was needed)

Proverbs 31:27 She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.  (She is constantly looking ahead to see what can be done- boy those taxes are nagging me again!)

We talked about how these verses remind us that we’re always to be looking ahead to see what needs there are.  It could be simply to make a meal in advance, but there is always something that we could do instead of watch TV that would save us stress later. Please tell me I’m not the only one feeling convicted for not doing a better job of staying ahead of my family’s needs.

This was the last week of our 4 week challenge to set some goals and spend at least 15 minutes making them a priority in your daily routine.  Next week we’ll start a new 4 week challenge, but I hope you’ll continue devoting at least 15 minutes.  Remember- it takes 21 days to make a habit, 21 more days to make it a lifelong habit, but only 3 days to break a habit!

  1. You’re definitely not the only one! :) It’s funny how different people struggle in different areas–I’m extremely organized in some areas but I’m always found it hard to sit down and actually take the time to learn how to save money using coupons the right way-then I kick myself for knowing that I could be spending my money more wisely! It’s great to be able to see what areas we need to work on, and get the motivation to jump in and do it!! :)
