Did Your Homemade Laundry Detergent Work Well For You?

My current 4 week frugal challenge is to make your own laundry detergent and give it a try. (for more than just one or two loads)  The cost to buy the base ingredients is around $10, but you will be able to make 7 or 8 batches of detergent from them. The laundry bar will cost about $1 and if you choose to use your favorite brand name (premade) detergent you’ll need about 1/4  of a 32 load bottle. You’ve got my personal recipe for liquid laundry detergent. And you’ve seen a step by step demonstation for how to make my detergent.

Did you make the detergent?  Did you use your favorite brand name detergent?  I know many of you have been making your own detergent for quite a while, but I’d love to hear your first impressions of the detergent.

Do you like the smell (or lack of if you didn’t use any brand name detergent)?
Did you find your clothes were just as clean as usual?
Were you surprised at how easy it truly was to make?

If you’re not satisfied with the detergent, try using a little more for each load.  Water in some places is more or less hard, and that will effect the results of your detergent.

Let me know what you think so far, and keep using it for another week or so to give it a fair try if you’re not completely satisfied at first!
