Simple Homemaking Plan March 2013

Last year I began picking 2-3 tasks around the house to accomplish each
week.  These were tasks that would typically get overlooked as they
don’t necessarily affect the daily functioning of our home (cleaning fan
blades, blinds, organizing closets etc). Sometimes they didn’t get accomplished, but without setting the goal, I’m sure that very little would have been accomplished! While it really helped me, one problem I found was that some weeks the
tasks were completed quickly and I’d “take some time off”.  But the next
week there would be too much to do with our schedule and I’d get
behind.  For 2013 I’ve written out 6 months of my homemaking plan so
that I can look ahead and do extra when there’s extra time, or when I
know we’ll be out of town soon. While breaking tasks into bite sized pieces is good, I’m finding it’s still important to see the big picture.

You can see my homemaking plan for January – June 2013 here in calendar format (subject to change of course!)

I still need to finish several tasks from January and February:

    • Call insurance companies and services to see about changing/reducing fees
    • Finalize tax documents, scan and submit to CPA
    • Vacuum cobwebs from corners and windows
    • Spot check walls and clean where needed
    • Clean all door frames, window frames and light switch plates

To be honest, most of February’s tasks got completed yesterday and today.  I spent so much of my month getting ready for the Disney World trip and preparing for the Couponing for the Kingdom Bible study that I just didn’t have much extra time for anything else.  I was determined to not let the tasks nag me and to not allow myself to push them aside all together either.

For the month of February these are my goals:

  • Week 10
  • Week 11
    • polish all wood furniture
    • vacuum couches
    • move flower seedlings to flower beds (I left the seedlings in a water bath while were in Orlando and they molded)
  •  Week 12
    • Clean all baseboards
    • treat carpet stains
    • find 3 items to list for sale
  • Week 13
    • Check supplies in storm shelter area and tidy it up
    • put away winter clothing for kids and cull any items they’ve outgrown
    • get out spring clothing for kids and cull any items they’ve outgrown

What extra household chores and tasks do you hope to accomplish in March?  Perhaps there are some I should add to my plan!
