This year for Christmas I was sent several products from Carton Smart to try out. Carton Smart products come in recyclable and resealable boxes. It’s no secret that I did not receive any cooking genes. In our family I can bake, microwave and make the occasional dish of homemade mac & cheese, but my husband does most of the real cooking. Because one of the Carton Smart products sent to me was jellied cranberry sauce, I decided the kids and I would make our traditional contribution for get togethers : Cranberry Pineapple Salad.
Usually I won’t let the kids pour the sauce because they end up shaking the can and splattering it everywhere instead of just waiting for gravity to produce the typical “thlub thlub thlub” sound that indicates everything is slipping out of the can. I was anxious about the box not emptying out as thoroughly as the can of sauce does, but I was pleasantly surprised. All the sauce slid out just fine with no “thlub thlub thlub” needed. I wonder if it has anything to do with the wonderful absence of preservatives?
I loved that the sauce was nice and thick, unlike our usual sauce, and it has a very rich color. Never once before had it occurred to me that other sauces are seemingly nothing more than jello themselves. Carton Smart Cranberry Sauce is more like a homemade jam than jelly!
It melted easily into the hot water/juice mixture. Little One had a blast (as you can see by the red splashes all over the dish and table) getting to stir in the jello and sauce! 
By the time the cranberry sauce was incorporated it was so thick and dark you couldn’t even see the spoon.
Usually when I mix the pineapple tidbits and apple chunks into the jello and cranberry sauce, everything will sink to the bottom – even if I wait a couple of hours after gelling. This time because of that nice, thick and rich sauce the fruit incorporated very well throughout and didn’t sink.
And the taste was absolutely delicious! It was so much sweeter than when I usual other brands of cranberry sauce.
