How Many Newspapers Should You Buy Tomorrow?

This post may contain affiliate links.

There are 3 inserts expected this Sunday.  My favorite Qs are the C&H sugar and Dawn. If you are buying from a newsstand be sure to check at the register to ensure that the inserts are there before you buy!  Even if the insert packet is sealed doesn’t mean that the stuffing machine didn’t run out of inserts. You can check the list of Qs for this week here to see what you can expect.

A lot of people ask me how many papers I get.  When I get papers or inserts, I get 2 for my family.  I recommend 1 set of inserts per adult consumer in your home.  My 3 yr old and baby combined don’t consume half what an adult does so they don’t count.  If you have 2 teens and 2 adults, I’d recommend 4 papers.  If you have 2 adults and 2 younger children, you might consider 3.  There is no right or wrong #, but that’s a good starting formula.

It’s funny you mentioned Dallas. Last week one lady swiped every last newspaper and this week Dallas is here but the one insert is Redplum. How does that happen? I live in Killeen so its already hard enough to get Dallas without a subscription.

  2. Hi Anon,
It sounds like Killeen is being hit hard with extreme couponers. As far as the inserts in the paper the machines that are stuffing the packets an easily run out of inserts of accidently stuff two in one. Unfortunately the Dallas paper is successful enough (obviously since they charge more than double other large newspapers) that they don’t feel they have to guarantee their inserts. It’s an unlucky thing for us though. You may have to hire a clipping service, which is what many of us have done to combat the issues with the Dallas Morning News. If you go in with a friend to split the shipping you’ll probably pay less anyway. The only draw back is that you won’t get your Qs until late in the week. There are some options in this post: http://www.thriftytexaspenny.com/2011/02/do-your-newspapers-and-coupons-cost-too.html You might also try another paper. I think the FtWorth paper has the same inserts. HTH

Is there an advantage of the local paper over the Dallas paper?
    Ann

  4. Hi Ann, If you are in Tyler the Dallas paper will be a bit more expensive but will have significantly more Qs and some will be higher dollar amounts than the Tyler paper. I can’t say for other towns from experience, but from what I hear it’s the same more places. The only time I recommend buying the Tyler paper is on the rare week when the PG is the only insert since the PG has very few variations. You can always check the spine on the inserts from the Dallas paper to see if there are other newspapers near you (and possibly cheaper) that provide the same insert.

  5. I live in Rockport, Texas, and the Corpus Christi paper only has half the inserts as the San Antonio paper. That’s all we can get around here. I have 3 adults and a tween living in my house, so I buy 4 of the San Antonio papers. Now, this may sound a wee bit on the obsessed side, but I am at the corner store at 6:30 Sunday morning, and I meet the paper deliver guy and get them “hot out of his car” so to speak. I always check my papers for the inserts. No, I am not a freak, not OCD, but we live in a vacation getaway town, so the papers do tend to go fast.

  6. I completely understand Cathy. Before a friend started getting mine for me, I would try to get the early edition on Saturday night. Otherwise I could go before church Sunday, but couldn’t always get them-especially on a PG week. I think you’re smart to get up and get at ’em for what’s important to ya! :-)
