How much money is in your tummy? Not literally of course, but how much money have you invested in what goes in your tummy? When you’re trying to pinch pennies, it’s not enough to buy a product at extreme discounts. You need to consider how far that product will go for you.
Retail price of a bag of Doritos: $2.99 at Walmart or $3.99 at the grocery and drugstores.
Weight of a bag of Doritos: 12.5 oz.Retail price of a banana: $.47/lb. at Walmart or $.58 at the grocery store.
Weight of a small banana: 6 oz.Retail price of yogurt $.38 for generic at Walmart or $.50 for generic at the grocery store.
Weight of yogurt cup: 6 oz.
A common sale price for doritos is $2.00 a bag (that’s slightly more than the cost of generic BTW). That’s $0.16 per ounce
to fill your tummy. An ounce of yogurt costs $0.06 while the banana costs only $0.03 per ounce! If you found a sale on the yogurt or bananas, the difference would be even more drastic.
If you need 20 ounces to be filled do you want to buy the sale price Doritos and spend $3.20 for your lunch or eat things like bananas and yogurt and spend as little as $.60 for lunch? The same principle can be applied to anything, including whether to buy a 2 liter of soda or a couple packets of koolaid. (or drink water!) I’m not saying it’s wrong to eat chips or drink soda, but don’t get stuck in the trap of getting a good % off the price of a particular product. Make sure the product is truly worth the price when it comes to what you’re buying to fill your family’s tummies.
