$5 Dinners Week of 4/25

My goal is to provide dinner for my
family for an average of $5 except on special
occasions. We don’t have to eat beans and rice to
accomplish this goal!
We typically only cook a main dish 4 or 5 times a week. Each
main dish cooked will serve 4-6, and the
leftovers will be for easy dinners on the weekend, or to freeze
for another week. This cuts down on cleaning,
cooking, and meal planning- saving us lots of time!

My “quick trip” for my uncle’s services threw last week’s menu out the window, but we did make the meaffins last night and little Turkey loved them!  Hubby said they weren’t very flavorful so he slathered them in ketchup. He ate 3 himself- yes 3!  (of course it could have been that he was bribed with eating a piece of his Easter candy when he finished one, but whatever works to get some fat on those bones…)Me? I don’t like the taste of beef (only eat taco meat or McDonald’s/Wendy’s), so I skipped out on this one. I’ll definitely fix them again though since Turkey likes them.

This week we’ll be trying the Nacho Pie suggested by Tiera.

  5. Have you ever subbed ground turkey for ground beef? I do it all the time in casseroles. My family doesn’t complain and it’s cheaper and healthier than the the beef. Just a thought.

  6. We’ve used the turkey a few times. When I can get it on sale for .99 a lb I’ll buy it. We don’t eat beef at home much and I think it’s good to have every once in a while. I hadn’t thought about using gr turkey when I was shopping for that beef though. I wonder how it would have tasted in the meaffins? One of these days I’ll have a deep freeze and will stock up next time I can get it really cheap. I need to buy a quarter cow too…
