The past two weeks I’ve shared ideas for casserole swaps and family meal swaps. If you’ve tried either of these ideas, then you’ve seen that cooking a double meal takes minimal amount of extra time over just cooking for your own family. This makes my last idea a bit easier to try: Show a random act of kindness and cook extra for a neighbor or friend. OK, so this may not result in you getting a variety of meals. Chances are pretty good that you’ll get a few cook free nights too. You have heard of pay it forward, right?
When we were first married a neighbor (who also happened to be our landlord) called us one afternoon and offered us extras from her dinner. What a blessing that was to stop contemplating my dinner plans and just run next door to pick up dinner instead. When we bought our first house I began doing the same. We would even deliver meals to fridges when we knew where spare keys were. We’d leave a message to say “your dinner is in the fridge” I can’t count how many times this favor has been returned to us.
We all deliver meals for occasions like babies, sickness and loss, why should the everyday difficulties of a mom be any different? When we bless, we are blessed in return. I encourage you to think of someone who might not need a meal, but could use a meal. Call them up and bless them in the next few days with a cooked meal. Or post on facebook “I’m cooking a double batch of _________ tonight and will share with the next local person to respond to my post” What an epidemic we could start with blessing others with a meal. Share from your bounty and you will be blessed in return.
excellent!!

I love this! I always keep random baked good in the freezer for our “Brownie Ministry” but a whole casserole would be a super asset as well to have for an r.a.k. Thanks.
