Yes, You Can Paint Over Wallpaper

We (meaning Hubby) gave this a try today.  Little One’s room at our new house had been painted a dark brown over wallpaper.  Really it was a very nice job and it was hard to detect the wallpaper.  We of course wanted a much lighter color for her walls.  Turns out if you use water based paint the walls will bubble horribly. Lesson learned: if you don’t use an oil based paint you can save some time and money by just rolling water on your painted over wallpaper walls in order to remove the wallpaper in whole strips (obviously we rolled paint).  Our result: mostly white plaster walls that were painted by someone probably 50 years ago with a few wallpaper remnants to be removed tomorrow.
