Alternate Uses for Shampoo

So you buy a bottle of shampoo and the scent isn’t exactly what you want to be smelling all day, or maybe it doesn’t work with your hair as well as you’d hoped.  That shampoo doesn’t have to be wasted!

  • Use a squirt to give your toilet a daily swish.  It will extend the period of time that you need to use chemicals to clean it, and keep it fresher in the meantime.
  • You can use it to shave your legs.  Surprising, but let’s face it- shampoo is designed to lather around hair and to moisturize! (use can combine with conditioner for even more moisturizing properties)
  • For the same reason, use it as a body wash.
  • Use it as hand soap, especially for grimy hands from your kids playing outside.
  • Don’t forget to ask around, you may find a friend who loves that particular brand and would be more than happy to take a nearly brand new bottle off your hands!
  • Let the kids wash their barbie’s hair with it.

Try to never throw anything away.  No need to waste your hard earned dollars when an alternate use can be found.  Can you think of any other uses for shampoo?

  1. Not many people realize it makes a GREAT hand soap! I got some super cheap off brand shampoo at the store one time that was not good on my hair at all! However it was the BEST thing I’ve ever used on my hands when they got dirty working on the car. The orange Goop has nothing on the cheap shampoo to get the grease, oil, road dirt off first time without the scrub brush!

  2. Shampoo makes a great detergent for hand washing delicate lingerie, too.
You could save your dish detergent by using shampoo to clean a sink of plastic toys.

  3. You can use shampoo to wash the dogs also.

  4. My mother-in-law uses shampoo to clean her shower and says it works better than cleaner :) I use it to wash our dogs also, cheaper than dog shampoo and it makes them smell better!
