My goal is to provide dinner for my family for an average of $5 except on special occasions. We don’t have to eat beans and rice to accomplish this goal! I shop the grocery sales each week. Then I plan my menu based on the foods I have already at home (at a great price). I balance more expensive meals with less expensive ones. We typically only cook a main dish 4 or 5 times a week. Each
main dish cooked will serve 4-6, and the leftovers will be for
easy dinners on the weekend, or to freeze for another week. This
cuts down on cleaning, cooking, and meal planning- saving at us
lots of time!

This week is a very kid friendly week!
This week we’ll be cooking (in no particular order):
Corn Dogs, Carrot Sticks and Fresh Pears
Wendy’s take out (our total last night was just over $5)
Homemade Mac & Cheese, Sweet Peas, Mesquite Pork Chops
Store Bought Pizza and Orange Slices (hubby found the pizza for under a $1!)
5 Minute Onion Mushroom Pork Chops, Rice, Green Beans, Fruit Cocktail and Toast w/ Honey
Little Caesar’s Pizza and Apple Slices (would it be my menu plan without a pizza??)
For 2012, I will no longer be showing
the cost breakdown for our meals. If you’d like to see some $5 menu ideas with cost
breakdowns, please browse my pages for $5 Dinner Plans.

Awesome idea! I’ve always wanted to be a couponer but have never “taken the plunge” I will have to take one of your classes and pick your brain a lot!! 😉
LOL, yes you should start couponing. Actually the secret isn’t the coupons, it’s knowing your prices. Most of the groceries we buy aren’t with coupons My next class is Saturday and of course it’s free! http://www.thriftytexaspenny.com/search/label/coupon%20classes
