My goal is to provide dinner for my family for an average of $5 except on special occasions. We don’t have to eat beans and rice to accomplish this goal! I shop the grocery sales each week. Then I plan my menu based on the foods I have already at home (at a great price). I balance more expensive meals with less expensive ones. We typically only cook a main dish 4 or 5 times a week. Each main dish {Read More}
Simple Homemaking Plan Week 17 of 2012
As I sit down to write the menu for the week, I’m writing out my 4 weekly “to do” lists (personal tasks, blogging tasks, cleaning chores, less common maintenance cleaning tasks). It’s helping me to accomplish things that easily get pushed aside otherwise, even if I don’t get them all checked off! This week I spent about an hour working on painting the trim in the kids/guest bathroom this week. I even managed to get everything on my homemaking lists {Read More}

FREE "Do It Yourself" Frugal Living Class Saturday 4/28
200 years ago women did almost everything themselves. Many families were practically self sufficient. Of course they were also worn ragged by the end of each day. Next Saturday April 28th, from 10 am – noonish, Kristan from Practically Virtuous, Julie from Pary Moppins, and I will bring you our {Read More}

Bean Scooping Fine Motor Skills – Preschool Busy Activity
This weekend was a struggle for me. I was sick all weekend and my husband had to work both days. Little One was especially frustrated with my lack of energy and patience. I was determined to get the kitchen tidied so I set her up with a tray, cup of beans/lentils, a scooper and a small jar. Her task was to use the scooper to put all the beans into the jar. She really just wanted to use her hands. {Read More}
