July 2013 Frugal $5 Menu Plan

My goal is to provide dinner for my family for an average of $5 except on special occasions. We don’t have to eat beans and rice to accomplish this goal!  I shop the grocery sales each week.  Then I plan my menu based on the foods I have already at home (at a great price). I balance more expensive meals with less expensive ones. Because we cook multiples of each dish, we spend less time cleaning, cooking, and meal planning!

June turned out to be a non scheduled month for me.  My husband was home most of the month and did the majority of the cooking based on what we had in the freezer.  The last few days of June my folks were in town for a visit so we got treated out a few times too.  While it was a nice break, I’m starting to feel the downside of no menu plan.  My only saving grace has been the abundance of fresh fruit/veggies for less than $1/lb. We will probably visit family some this month, so I’m not planning as many meals as usual for July.

Dishes We’re Cooking
Grilled Pork Chops and Fried Cheese Sticks
Chicken Quesadillas
2x Lemon Pepper Salmon
Steak and Twice Baked Potatoes (hubby used some of his splurge money to buy the steaks!)
2x Pulled BBQ Pork Sandwiches
Corn Dogs
Grilled Season Salt Chicken
Spaghetti with Texas Cheese Toast

Planned Fast Food

Chick-fil-A on kids night
Little Caesar’s
McDonald’s $ menu

I’d like to work in a few new recipes this year.  I’d love to hear your suggestions of things you haven’t seen on my menus before!
