My mom always made mac and cheese from a regular small box. Nothing too exciting about that. Every once in a while she’d find a great deal on the family size box or a shells and cheese box. Those I really liked! When I cook up a box of regular mac and cheese I always add a slice of velveeta, which means it’s not much cheaper than buying the shells and cheese box. As I’ve mentioned before, my mother-in-law is {Read More}

Live Below the Line Challenge Day 2
I heard about this challenge last week and knew I had to participate. I’ve been trying to convince friends and readers for years that our groceries (or eating out) don’t have to cost us an arm and a leg. The Live Below the Line challenge runs for 5 days, from May 7th – 11th. The challenge is to feed yourself on less than $1.50 a day- the amount a U.S. person living in poverty would have to spend. While {Read More}
Make Audio Books (Books on Tape) For Your Kids
Do your kids ever get tired of the TV? Mine rarely do, but I get tired of them watching. Really they just want to hear/see a story. Since TV watching can have a negative effect if overdone, we limit screen time. Sometimes I just can’t take the time to read to them though. Instead I make my own audio books. Before the chocolate completely hardened he used a toothpick to write “We LOVE U” and “Happy Mother’s Day” on them. So very sweet, but that shouldn’t surprise anyone since he makes me sweet notes and flowers regularly! After {Read More}
Simple Homemaking Plan Week 19 of 2012
As I sit down to write the menu for the week, I’m writing out my 4 weekly “to do” lists (personal tasks, blogging tasks, cleaning chores, less common maintenance cleaning tasks). It’s helping me to accomplish things that easily get pushed aside otherwise, even if I don’t get them all checked off! Last week I started off being very productive. I’d marked 2 tasks off my list by Monday (or was it Tuesday?). Then I quickly lost my momentum {Read More}
