Overheard Conversations About Debt and Money Management

This week I thought I’d share with you (with permission) what some of my fellow bloggers from the Dishing It Up Recipe Hop group have said about debt and budgeting.  It’s funny how money comes up in our conversations from time to time and how passionate we all are with our different perspectives Mama Does it All said about a recent vacation: “We’re able to do it because we’ve been using the envelopes and really paying attention. Plus I convinced my {Read More}

Becoming Debt Free – Budget Update

I didn’t have any new steps for this week. My goal was just to keep being intentional and purposeful about staying within the new lowered monthly budget. As of last Thursday we’d spent about $144 of the $400 budget.   This week the total has risen to $200.03,  putting us on track to only spend $300 of the $400 budget for June.  That would give us $50 to roll over to next month’s budget and $50 for my husband and I {Read More}

Another Dave Ramsey Success Story – Guest Post

This guest post is from a friend of mine back home that introduced me to the Dave Ramsey concept.   Something about living on a small income and realizing you were spending $200 more a month than bringing in?  How you dealt with it etc. ? We went all out for a year & paid off all of our “consumer” debt and built up a baby emergency fund ($1000). For the last couple months we have been spending quite a bit {Read More}

Becoming Debt Free Step 4b (Budgeting Step 3)

This week I finally was able to sit down and finish tallying up our expenses from the past year.  I did have a couple of surprises. The past 4 months we’ve kept our expenses at about half of our $400 budget for all shopping.  Our “entertainment/eating out” expenses have been more sporadic than I realized.  Anywhere from 0 – $187 a month! Now that I know what we’ve been spending and how much we’re earning, my next step in creating {Read More}

This guest post is from reader Carrie.  I’ve been following her story of getting out of debt and saving for a home for about a year now.  I’ve been very inspired by her determination and creativity and I hope that you are too! I have always had the mentality that debt was bad. I had saved up enough money in high school to pay for my college education once I was done. My husband and I were married in August, {Read More}

Update on Step 4 of Becoming Debt Free

I had planned to have step 4 completed by this week, but I’ve barely begun.  With our trip, move to toddler bed, water leak and broken nose working on our finances just hasn’t been a priority.  I tried a few times to work on it, but I didn’t get very far before being interrupted I’m hoping to set aside 2 or 3 hours this weekend to tally our expenses from the past year so we can move on to the {Read More}

Becoming Debt Free Step 4

Last week we completed the 3rd step in becoming debt free: determining how much income we have and making sure our tax witholdings are accurate. We’re still holding too much out, so we’ll have a little bit extra money to apply to the mortgages each month! This was also the first step in creating a budget, I just didn’t want to scare my hubby off with the B word Creating a budget doesn’t necessarily mean micromanaging our money.  We just {Read More}
